Foreign Languages and Literature


Objective:The majoris committed tocultivating senior foreign language talents who support the basic line, principles and policies of Chinese Communist Party; conform to laws and rules; possess a rigorous academic attitude; follow professional ethics. We teach them to be socially responsible, good at organization and communication, and healthy in mentality. We aim to develop future inter-disciplinary language talents who are qualified for foreign language teaching, research, translation and cultural exchanges. We provide students with basic theories, expertise and research methods of foreign linguistics, foreign literature, translation, and cross-cultural studies, along with country studies, so that they have higher professional literacy, wide global vision, keen awareness of cultural differences. They can independently carry out scientific research, make dialectical analysis and innovation, carry out research as well as academic exchanges in a second foreign language.

Curriculum:

Core Courses: General Linguistics, Selected Readings of Foreign Literature, Inter-cultural Communication, Translation Theories, Cultural Studies and Theory of Japanese Culture, and East Asian Cultural Studies.

Career: Students graduating with a master's degree mainly apply for language-related jobs. For example, they may work in Foreign Ministry, universities, primary and secondary schools, banks, publishing houses, or other companies and public institutions for translation, teaching, editing, foreign trade, and cultural exchanges.
