Architecture

Objectives:

The aim of architecture education is to provide students with a strong foundation of architecture theories, professional knowledge and skills of architectural design, innovative thinking, wide vision, social responsibility, collaborative values, sustainable development and cultural heritage concepts.

We aim to cultivate future professionals who can provide architectural design, education, research, development and management services for architectural planning and design institutes, education and R&D institutes, or management departments. Students are supposed to be the leadingfiguresor core members of the field after 5 years of graduation. They should be able to independently undertake research, planning,projectdesign, preliminary design, construction drawing design, engineering and technical services for crucial projects, as well as other applicable design theoretical research and construction management work.

Over the years, with the rapid development of social economy and urbanization in China, Architecture has been the most popular majors in the society. Our five-year Architecture Program is awarded as one of the National level first class programs by the Ministry Education and Beijing Municipal Education Commission and has been accredited by the national architecture education steering committee in 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018 for six times.

Graduates are granted with Bachelor degrees of Architecture which are recognized internationally. In 2010, our Architecture Programs were approved as the first experimental programs of the "excellent engineers training plan" by the Ministry of Education. In 2012, we, together with Beijing Institute of Architectural Design, had successfully applied to be a National Architectural Engineering Practice and Education Center, approved by the Ministry of Education, to provide students with excellent internship experience. Architectural graduates, after specific career training, can attend the vocational examinations to be a certified architect or urban planner.

Curriculum:

Students need to learn more than 40 modules in five years including the core courses, the selective courses and the practice based programs. The examples of the core courses includeFundamental Architectural Design, Architectural Design and Principles, China and World History of Architecture, Architectural drawings andExpression, Physics of Architecture, Architectural Construction, Computer-Aided Design and Information Technology, Mechanics of Architecture, Architectural Structures and Architecture Tools.

Career:

Students following this pathway can choose to work in architecture or indoor interior design related professional design and research institutes, design consulting companies, city and landscape planning and research institutes as well as other applicable management departments, real estate development institutes and national government agencies in Beijing or other large and medium-sized cities. Recently, almost 60% of undergraduates choose to pursue graduate studies (in domestic or international renowned universities).
