A total of 9.56 million students from 4,347 universities in 121 countries and regions signed up for this year's competition. They included students from world-renowned universities such as Harvard University, the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. Beijing University of Technology staged a stellar performance in history with 2 gold medals among 1,085 projects in the main competition stream. This is the best ever performance since the Beijing municipal universities participated the competition.

The two winning projects, "Superconducting 'Base' Industry - Autonomous High Temperature Superconducting Alloy Baseband Pioneer" from the Faculty of Materials and Manufacturing, and "Gainlaser Intelligent Graphics - the First Domestic, Global Leading Dual-Spindle Laser Scanner" from the Faculty of Information Technology, both were recommended from the provincial-level first-prize winners after qualification review, online evaluation, and on-site competition at national level.

Supporting student competition has been a university focus in undergraduate and graduate curricula. The entries have exhibited high scientific and technological content, strong innovation, and closeness to actual industry applications. The University plans to open up more courses on innovation and entrepreneurship in the future and employ more full-time and part-time faculty members to assist student innovation and entrepreneurship efforts.
